MALLORY K is a beautiful example of a Downeast style lobster yacht, and one with an exceptional pedigree as she was designed by William “Pappy” Frost who was also referred to as the “Wizard of Beals”, and is largely credited as the originator of this style boat.

She is well built and exceptionally well maintained classic yacht. MALLORY K underwent a major reuild by the current owner at Strouts Point Wharf in Freeport over 20 years ago. She was re- powered in 2005 with a new Yanmar diesel (with approximately 240 hours).

She boasts, a deck for lounging and dinning with a fold away table and comfortable seating, a kitchen, head and sleeping accommodations for 4.

Construction

Carvel cedar planking, oak frames, backbone and floor timbers with bronze screw fastenings.  Deck is plywood with Dynel and epoxy with a teak overlay.  Self-bailing cockpit has a fir sole.  Trunk cabins are varnished mahogany.  Hull is black and a white Boottop and a red bottom.  Transom is varnished.  Wheelhouse has a canvas top and curtain enclosure. 3 deck storage lockers/seats in cockpit. Vessel was rebuilt by Strouts Point Wharf in Freeport, ME.

Engine

2005 Yanmar turbo charged, 315 hp, 6-cyl. diesel, model #6LPA-5TP2 is reported to be in excellent condition.  Cruising speed 14-16 knots, maximum speed 18-20 knots.  Engine meter reads 234 hours in October 2013.

Tanks

100 gal. fuel in two 50-gl. fiberglass tanks with fuel gauge, water tank.

Electrical

12V lighting system with three 12V batteries, enclosed circuit-breaker panel opposite helm, battery-condition indicator.

Accommodations

Rode locker and stowage right forward followed by settee berths port and starboard with backrests that may be converted to pipe berths.  The enclosed head with WC and Corian counter/sink is aft to port, and the galley is opposite to starboard with Corian counter, sink with pressure water, stowage and Force 10 gimballed 2- burner propane stove with oven.  The interior is bright and airy and finished in bright mahogany and white paint with 3 opening ports and 2 fixed windows on either side. There is a folding table in the cockpit.

Ground Tackle

45-lb. CQR on bow roller with chain, Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000 electric windlass.

Equipment

Electric bilge pump, 2 fire extinguishers, Kidde Engine Watch fire suppressant in engine space, 6 PFDs, fenders, docking lines and cockpit cushions.  Electric wipers. Spruce signal mast.  Helmsman’s seat and 2 deck chairs.

Electronics and Navigation

Clock and barometer, compass in binnacle, ICOM radar, Garmin Map 215 GPS, flasher/depth sounder and some older, non-functioning electronics.
