Georgia is a plank-on-frame wooden Lobster Cruiser built in 1990 by Richard Stanley at Great Harbor Boatworks in Southwest Harbor, ME.  Richard Stanley is the son of famed Mount Desert Island lobster boat builder Ralph Stanley.  Their family has been building yachts and work boats on the island since the 1950’s and Richard’s experience with the type really shows in Georgia.  Her lines more closely resemble the working boats of the 60’s and 70’s than the contemporary lobster boat.  She has the lovely sheer, low profile cabin house, narrower beam and tumblehome of earlier designs and a lot of upgrades and modern conveniences not often found in boats of an earlier vintage or similar size.

Georgia has a nice sized teak decked cockpit with a built-in transom bench, cushioned engine box and removable canvas sides.  Her cabin house and weather decks are glassed over and painted.  Her finishing scheme looks terrific and has been done with an eye towards ease of maintenance as well.  Its simple and clean, mostly paint with a few varnished details to accentuate the shape and remind you she’s a yacht and not a work boat.  Her electronics have recently upgraded and her exhaust system rebuilt to make her as quiet as possible.

Down below Georgia is fitted with a simple and very functional cruising interior.  At the bottom of the companion way is a simple galley with a butane stove and manual sink.  To starboard there’s a hanging locker and an enclosed cabin with a self-contained portable head.  Forward there is a V-berth with room for two adults.

Georgia has a lot to offer for a 30′ cruising lobster yacht.  She’s beautiful, has the pedigree, and has been well looked after.  She has a reliable diesel engine and upgraded systems through out.  Her hull is relatively new and has been very well maintained, no reason to think she should need significant maintenance for years to come.  The interior offers more amenities and room than in most 30′ traditional lobster boats.  Its light, comfortable and well laid out.  Georgia is a perfect Maine coast picnic boat and weekender in turn-key condition.  She’s been maintained for the last few years by Rockport Marine, and will be stored with us and available for showings this winter.
