Feather is a Ray Hunt designed 41’ Concordia Yawl, built at the Abeking and Rasmussen yard for the Concordia Company of Padanaram, MA.  The 41’ ft design is a refinement of the original 39’, created in order to optimize the original boat to the predominant rating rule of the time, the CCCA rule.  The design may have penned for the racecourse but the resulting increased stability and larger interior proved popular with cruisers as well.

Feather is an older one, Concordia hull #29 and the 4th 41 footer.  She was built in 1955 for a customer in Rumson, NJ, but appears to have spend most of her life in New England.  As the Concordia book notes, she was nearly the fleet’s first casualty.  Robert MacGregor, a Concordia employee, spotted her in the back of the yard in disrepair shortly after his hire in 1978. He committed to saving her through the seven years that passed before he was able to purchase her.   In 1987, with the help of his coworkers at the yard, he replaced all the floor timbers, sternpost, keel, deadwood, ultimately saving Feather.

Feather has had a string of committed owners and been well maintained since by the Concordia company, Crocker’s Boatyard and Rockport Marine.  Her canvas deck was replaced with a composite teak one in 1991.  In 2007 she received a new Yanmar diesel.  In the last 6 years, under her current ownership, she’s had considerable work:

-new rudder

-completely refastened below waterline

-wooded topsides and painted with Epiphanes

-installed Raymarine electronics package

-installed new life-lines

-replaced housetop dynel

-wooded and painted main salon and head

-new canvas

A lot of thought has been given to the manner in which Feather was maintained and modified over the years.  She’s had substantial upgrades; propane stove, engine, electronics, rigging, winches, head and fresh water system.  Thankfully the feel of the boat and the details that give Concordia’s their own unique personality; the original paneled cabinetry, woodstove, transom berths, and interior bronze hardware, are all there.  Feather is a very clean and nicely modernized turn-key Concordia 41’.  She’s in storage here at Rockport Marine and ready for her next owner.
