39′ 1957 Concordia Yawl
$90,000
“Concordias are the definition of a well-designed and well-constructed wooden yacht. Conceived in 1938 by the team of Ray Hunt and Waldo Howland, built for the most part by the legendary craftsmen of one of Germany’s great shipyards, these 39’ and 41’ yawls and sloops were designed to be ideal cruising racing boats…(they) can carry their hull speed on any point of sail and in virtually any conditions of coastal cruising… (and) the sheerline of these boats is what we have been trying to get right all these years when we doodle sailboats…” Concordia Yawls: The First Fifty Years
Peter Gow’s quote nicely summarizes the combination of beauty, practicality, and exceptional sailing characteristics that give the Concordia boats their unique appeal. Djkarta (#50, built in 1957) is a clean and well-spec’d example, a yawl rigged 39 footer with the standard interior layout, a varnished cockpit, and more efficient mast head rig. She has been sensibly upgraded with a roller furling genoa, two speed bronze winches, 12v refrigeration and a sound-insulated engine box for her Yanmar diesel.
Djkarta is in excellent structural condition following a major overhaul here at Rockport Marine in 2010 during which her ballast keel was dropped and the keel, engine beds, floor timbers, mast step, frame ends, floor and keel bolts replaced, and major engine a service performed. She’s been lightly used since and received new topsides paint and varnish just before she was put into storage a few years ago.
Djkarta is a fine example of one of classic yachting’s most versatile and iconic designs. With her middle of the road pricing, like-new sails, desirable spec, and exceptional structural and aesthetic condition, she offers outstanding value in the current Concordia market. Djkarta is currently in storage in Rockport, ME.
