35′ Sparkman & Stephens Pilot Sloop
$49,000
Corlaer was built in the late 50’s at Woodnutt & Co. yard on the Isle of Wight to S&S design 1219. The design was the second iteration of the S&S Pilot Sloop, and was drawn while Aage Neilsen was at Sparkman Stephens. The S&S pilot sloop would go on to be built with slight modification in wood by the Hinckley company as the Hinckley Pilot, and ultimately in fiberglass as the Hinckley Pilot 35. Following WWII and due in part to the influence of the Crusing Club of America and its new rating rule, the trend in yachting was towards smaller, seaworthy, practical cruiser-racer designs. The S&S Pilot sloop was just such a design and the qualities that made these popular and practical boats in the 40’s and 50’s are still true today. Corlaer is great family cruising boat that would be equally at home racing in classics regattas and weekly PHRF races.
She has a stunning profile, sweeping sheer, low freeboard, an attractive cabin house and good sized cockpit. Down below Corlaer has a comfortable interior with room for four adults on the two settee/berths in the salon and in the V-berth forward. The rigging is nicely spec’d with a Sitka-spruce mast-head rig, roller furling genoa, new main sheet system, symmetrical spinnaker gear and a lot of original bronze deck hardware.
Corlaer is currently stored in East Boothbay at the P.E. Luke yard. The yard has had the boat for the last 5 years and has done significant work for the current owners, totaling more than the boats current asking price. The work included rebuilding the stem, sternpost, keelson and rudder, dropping the keel to replace the deadwood and a number of planks, upgrading electronics, etc. She could be launched and used this summer and comes with a dual axle 2014 Triad trailer.
