SOLD – 24′ Brownell/Eldredge McInnis Bassboat

The Brownells (and other contemporary Buzzard’s Bay Bassboats from the likes of Earnest MacKenzie, George Ballentine) are instantly recognizable for their attractive, flared, hard chine, high freeboard, hull shape and aft mounted tiller and secondary throttle controls.  They were designed for pursing striped bass in the tidal rips and notoriously choppy water of Buzzards Bay and have proven themselves to be exceptionally seaworthy, stable, and comfortable.  They are, as the many fiberglass imitations have shown, ideal boats not just for the sportfishing guides for whom they were originally conceived, but also as a family day boats for casual fishing, island hopping and overnighting.

Spirit is a 24 footer (hull #5) built at Brownell Boatworks in Mattapoisett, MA in 1961.  She’s in excellent structural condition following an overhaul at Brownell in 2012-2014 (detailed below) and has received fastidious care since.  She was re-powered with a new 235hp 5.7l (350 cu. in.) Chris-Craft gas engine over the winter of 2020-2021 and received a full repaint and varnish and a new canvas Bimini here at Rockport Marine over the winter of ’21-22.  Spirit is currently in storage in Rockport, ME ready for showings.
