SAYONARA was built to exceedingly high standards in 1956 by Paul Luke’s Yard in East Boothbay, Maine and designed by the renowned designer, K. Aage Nielsen of Denmark. These two highly regarded firms provide no finer pedigree. SAYONARA has had only 5 owners in her 70 years. Her present owners purchased her in 1976 and have lovingly and carefully maintained her to first class condition. Being knowledgeable longtime members of the Ocean Cruising Club and CCA, their stated goal was to be the best “stewards” of this lovely Classic, ensuring that her structure was kept in “Bristol” condition and her equipment was in top working order. EXTENSIVE RECONSTRUCTION & UPGRADES MADE BY ROCKPORT MARINE BETWEEN 2002-2006:
- 2005 bottom was stripped. Majority of new mahogany bottom planking was installed. Also lower frames and frame ends were laminated and replaced, floor timbers replaced along with the forefoot of vessel.
- Also one keel bolt was removed and checked and found to be in excellent condition.
- 2006 new horn timber and stern post replaced.
- As a result of this work, the vessel has an essentially new bottom.
- 2003-2004 new teak bulwarks, caprails, covering boards and sheer planks were installed.
- 2002-2003 vessel totally rewired by Rockport Marine.
- With all this recent work, the vessel would be considered close to new condition.
