Arcturus is a Sam Crocker designed New Bedford 35 boasting thousands of miles cruising the coast of Maine. Built in Massachusetts, this boat has been well cared for and loved over her lifetime, having only 3 owners over the past 75 years. The current owners have sailed Arcturus of over 30 years, cruising for weeks at a time with their children. This is a proven family sailer.
Arcturus is 1 inch carvel mahogany planked over oak frames. She was completely refastened below the waterline with silicon bronze screws in 2000. In 2006 she was re-powered with a Westerbeke 4-107 40 hip diesel. During this project, the shaft was removed, serviced and reinstalled with a new cutlass bearing and stuffing box. in 2008 the cockpit was serviced, leading to a 70% replacement. in 2011 the boat was professionally re-calked below the waterline with cotton and the keel bolts were pulled for inspection where they were found to be serviceable and re-installed. in 2013 new batteries ere replaced and in 2014 the bolts securing the chainplates were replaced. This past winter planks on the port side were replaced and the topsides repainted.
