32′ Lobster Cruiser

Additional photos at the YachtWorld listing

The power cruiser TOLLIE, built in 1929 by Gray Boats in Thosmaston Maine, is now for sale. All maintenance and indoor storage has been performed at D. N. Hylan & Associates in Brooklin, ME since 1989. Tollie is an embodiment of the idea of “a classic of a bygone era”. Her mere existence at this stage is testimony in and of itself to the sound and time-tested construction techniques used to build her as well as the quality of materials used in the original construction. Granted she has had significant help along the way to assist her in the path to longevity, this as well as many other refits and restorations of various aspects of the vessel have been undertaken over the years. In more recent years she has had the good fortune to be cared for by a highly knowledgeable owner, i.e. designer/boatbuilder, who also has the skills and facilities to properly maintain her. For example, the vessel is stored in a cold shed with a moist dirt floor, the second-best place a wooden boat can be in the scheme of things.

Tollie, has a V-bunk forward and small galley and head. There are long seats on each side of the pilothouse which can be enclosed with canvas weather cloths (included).

A couple of photos of TOLLIE (then called TUVA) appear in The Book of Wooden Boats, Volume 3 by Benjamin Mendlowitz. Another photo of her appears on p. 29 of the Jan/Feb 2003 issue of WoodenBoat.
